Kraljica soula Areta Frenklin (76) preminula je nakon teške bolesti, prenose američki mediji.
Poslednjih godina je povremeno nastupala, ali je prošlog leta otkazala seriju koncerata, jer su joj doktori naredili, zbog lošeg zdravstvenog stanja.
Poslednji put je nastupila prošle godine sa Eltonom Džonom za AIDS Fondaciju u Njujorku. Tada je i najavila da će 2017. godina biti njena poslednja godina za nastupe.
Karijera Arete Frenklin je "oblikovala američku istoriju". Rođena je u Tenesiju, majka je bila pijanistkinja a otac sveštenik, i počela je da peva u crkvi. Otac joj je ubrzo postao menadžer, i vodio je sa sobom na "gospel karavane" u okviru kojih je nastupala širom Amerike.
Prvi album "Songs of faith" izdala je 1956, nastavila da se probija na sceni religiozne muzike, a zatim skupila hrabrost i priznala ocu da želi da krene u pop muziku.
Njene pesme "Respect", "Spanish Harlem", "Think", "You make me feel like a natural woman", apsolutni su klasici muzike i još šezdesetih godina proglašena je za "Kraljicu soula".
Ona je pevala na sahrani Martina Lutera Kinga 1968. godine. Areta je prva žena koja dobila mesto u Rokenrol kući slavnih 1987. godine, a "Roling stoun" je uvrstio na listu umetnika za sva vremena.
